NuScale Power Launches Nuclear Initiative

Portland-based NuScale Power, which is developing nuclear reactor technology, said it has launched a new multi-state collaboration to study the deployment of its plants. The company said the Western Initiative for Nuclear will study the demonstration and deployment of a multi-module NuScale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) plant at a site like the Idaho National Laboratory. NuScale said the effort will be an initial demonstration project for a series of projects to be developed in other states. NuScale said it has created modular, scalable, commercial nuclear power technology which it says is inherently safe. The company's technology is based on modular, 45 megawatt, self-contained nuclear modules. NuScale's technology is based on research originally developed at Oregon State University.
