Planetary Resources Turns To Kickstarter For Space Telescope
If you're a startup looking to mine for minerals on an asteroid, how do you raise money to build yourself a space telescope to find those asteroids? If you're Seattle-based Planetary Resources, you turn to Kickstarter, the crowdfunding site, and try to raise a million dollars from individuals. Plantery Resources kicked off its fundraising campaign for its "Arkyd" space telescope today, saying that it will use the funding to build and launch a space telescope that will be accessible by the general public. To help raise money for the telescope, Planetary Resource is offering a "space selfie" picture for $25, all the way up to a ticket to its rocket launch for $10,000 or more.
