Cray Expands Storage Products Line
Seattle-based Cray said today that it has expanded its line of storage products, with the launch of a new product. Cray said its new Cray Sonexion 1600 system provides more than 1TB/sec of bandwidth, specifically aimed at high performance computing (HPC) applications nad workloads. The firm said the Lustre-based storage system has a capacity of up to 240 TB. Cray said the storage product is already being shipped to customers, and is also being used as part of the Blue Waters supercomputer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois. The company said that the NCSA is using the storage for more than 25 petabytes of storage, spread across 36 cabinets and including more than 17,000 disks. Lustre is a distributed file system used in high performance computing applications.
