Cray Buys Appro International

Seattle-based supercomputer maker Cray said this morning that it has agreed to acquire Appro International, a developer of supercomputer clusters, in a deal worth $25M in cash. Cray said that Appro will become the core of a new Cluster Solutions business, and that it will add approximately 90 Appro employees as part of the buy. Appro develops high performance computing (HPC) clusters aimed at medium to large scale deployments. Those cluster use inexpensive, rackmount systems to create supercomputer capabilities, rather than expensive, custom hardware.
