Elemental Planning New Cloud Offering
Portland-based Elemental Technologies, the provider of video transcoding products used by companies to translate their videos into various formats for the web, said this week that it is planning to unveil a new, cloud-based product. The firm said the new products will be built on Amazon Web Services, and will help customers security manage high volume, enterprise-class video. Details on the new service have not been announced. Elemental's video transcoding products rely on GPU processors, high speed graphic processing chips used in PCs, to accelerate the transcoding of video; this will be the first cloud offering from Elemental. Amazon has been offering GPUs as part of its web services since 2010, and Elemental has been working with Amazon since its launched those GPU clusters. Elemental is headed by Sam Blackman.
