Mentor Graphics Ties RTOS Into LTE
Wilsonville, Oregon-based Mentor Graphics announced this morning that it has integrated the IP multimedia technology developed by Ecrio into its Nucleus Real Time Operating System (RTOS). According to Mentor, the collaboration allows its OS to be used with 4G, LTE mobile devices. Ecrio's software is used to power the telecom protocols behind the LTE standard. The two companies said their collaboration enables the ability to run both SMS and VoIP services on a baseband processor, rather than an application processor, increasing battery life in phones. Mentor's Nucleus RTOS is used in the development of mobile phones; Mentor says it that the OS has been deployed on more than 2.3 mobile handsets.
