Getaround to Launch Car Sharing In Portland
Car sharing service Getaround and the City of Portland said Tuesday that the firm will launch its service in the city, backed by a $1.725M grant from the Federal Highway Administration. The two said they expect to launch Getaround's peer-to-peer car sharing service in the greater Portland metropolitan area by February. The service will initially launch at Portland State University in January. Getaround is one of a number of car sharing services, which allow drivers to rent a car for a short period of time, instead of having to own and maintain their own car. Getaround's service is a "peer-to-peer" service, which allows other people to let friends, co-workers and neighbors borrow their cars, and set their own pricing and availability.
