Amazon, Discovery Settle Patent Spat
Seattle-based Amazon.com and Discovery Communications, the cable channel operator, have apparently filed to settle a longstanding patent suit between the two firms. Discovery--the firm behind the Discovery Channel, TLC, and The Animal Planet--had sued Amazon in 2009 over patents that Discovery said Amazon had violated with the sale of its Kindle and Kindle 2 products. The report of a settlement was first reported by Bloomberg. Details of the settlement have not been released. Discovery had alleged its patent, U.S. Patent Number 7,298,851, covered a secure, encrypted system for sale and transmission of electronic books.
