Clearwire, Sprint In Talks On LTE Deployment
Kirkland-based Clearwire appears to be in talks with Sprint, about working together on LTE deployment, according to Sprint CEO Dan Hesse. In an earnings call, Hesse said that the two are in a "nonbinding" cooperation agreement on technical specifications for a Clearwire LTE network. Sprint is the majority investor in Clearwire, but said earlier this month that it would be phasing out support for Clearwire compatible devices. Clearwire gambled on WiMax technology for its network buildup, but the industry has overwhelmingly adopted the competing LTE standard. Clearwire said it would start its own LTE efforts in August.
