Microsoft Adds Compal With Another Android Win

Redmond-based Microsoft continues to gain more Android patent licensing customers, after the firm said this weekend that it has signed a patent agreement with Compal Electronic. Microsoft said the agreement calls for coverage under its patent portfolio for Compal's tablets, mobile phones, e-readers and other consumer devices running Android or Chrome. The deal again calls for Microsoft to receive royalties from an electronics manufacturer running Android. Microsoft has been running a controversial program to force Android phone and tablet makers to pay it a royalty for each of its devices, due to technology it says is covered by its patents being used in the Android operating system.
