Microsoft Ramps Sustainability Efforts After Shareholder Pressure
Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. said today that it has launched a new effort, which will require annual sustainability reports from its vendors, after pressure from a shareholder activist. Microsoft Corp. said that, starting in 2013, it will require a "cross section" of its suppliers to provide reports on its existing code of conduct, and commitment to social and environmental policies, programs, and performance. The firm said the new effort comes after a shareholder proposal was received from New York City Comptroller John C. Liu on behalf of the New York City Pension Funds.
