Microsoft Boosts Solar Energy Efforts
Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. has boosted its solar power efforts, saying last week that it has purchased 315 MW of energy in Virginia, the single largest corporate purchase of solar energy, ever, in the United States. Microsoft said the acquisition brings it to a total of approximately 1.2 gigawatts in its portfolio. The Virginia solar projects are owned and operated by sPower. Microsoft said the Pleinmont I and II plans will consist of more than 750,000 solar panels spread across more than 2,000 acres, and produce approximately 715,000 MWh a year.
