Whrrl Enhances Recommendations
Seattle-based Pelago, the maker of the Whrrl mobile social networking application, said today at SXSW that it has launched an "anti-search" technology which recommends activities, ideas, and places, based on a user's check-ins, social graph, physical activity and recommendations, as well as interests. Whrrl said it is tapping the Whrrl Societies--the interest groups which people can join on the service--to provide better relevance to real world recommendations. The firm said the use of the societies will provide even better suggestions on activities--for example, suggesting a user to Barnes & Noble because of fellow comic book collectors recommending its comic section. The firm said the feature works on its iPhone, Android, and new BlackBerry application.
