Whrrl Launches Recommendations Feature
Seattle-based Pelago, the makers of the Whrrl mobile social networking software, said Wednesday that it has added a new, personalized recommendation feature to its service. According to Pelago, the new feature helps suggest places to go and things to do based on their real-world activity and social activity on the site. Comparing it to Amazon's recommendation engine, Pelago explained that the new feature is available on its iPhone version of the service. The company said Whrrl takes into account user check-ins, recommendations, and activities of friends and others to personalized recommendations to users. Whrrl competes with social check-in services like Foursquare and Gowalla, offering up a way for people to share their real life experiences via their mobile phones and devices. Pelago is venture backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Bezos Expeditions, T-Venture, Trilogy Equity Partners and Reliance Technology Ventures.
