Amazon Extends Kindle Royalty Effort In Canada

Seattle-based Amazon.com has extended its 70 percent royalty option for Kindle to books sold in Canada, the firm said Friday. Amazon, which provides higher royalties to books meeting certain price and distribution options, said the move allows publishers to gain the better royalty rate for books sold to Canadian customers. Amazon also said it has renamed its self publishing program from Kindle Digital Text Platform to Kindle Direct Publishing. Amazon is using the royalty program to convince publishers to offer up their books for at least, or better than the physical price of the book; support its text-to-speech features; and to offer their books for less than $9.99.
