Amazon 70 Percent Royalty For Kindle Launches

Seattle-based Amazon.com said today that it has launched its 70 precent royalty option for Kindle authors and publishers. The firm, which had announced the program in January, said the new option will allow authors and publishers to earn a larger share of each Kindle book sold on Kindle, Kindle DX, or Kindle apps on iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, BlackBerry, PC, Mac and Android phones. The firm said the payment to authors will be 70 percent of the list price, minus delivery costs, which are based on file size. Amazon is offering the new royalty option on certain books which are priced at least 20 percent below the lowest list price for a physical book, are priced between $2.99 and $9.99, is available in all geographies, and which enable features such as text-to-speech. The company gave the example of an $8.99 book, where under the standard royalty program would net an author $3.15; under the new royalty program, Amazon said the author could earn $6.25 on that title.
