Cray Customer Upgrades Supercomputer
Seattle-based Cray said Tuesday that one of its customers, Sweden's Royal Institute of Technology, has signed a contract to upgrade an existing, Cray XT6m supercomputer to Cray's new XE6. According to Cray, the upgraded machine--which will have more than 300 teraflops of capacity--to address complex scientific problems in medicine, biology, fluid mechanics, astrophysics, climate modeling and life sciences. Financial impact of the contract was not disclosed. The Institute acquired the Cray XT6m earlier this year. Cray launched its XE6 in May.
