Report: 77,000 Life Sciences Jobs In Washington State
A report released Friday by the We Work for Health finds that there are a total of 77,000 jobs now in Washington state. The Washington Life Sciences Economic Impact Study found that life sciences are directly responsible for 22,349 jobs in Washington State, with the industry indirectly responsible for another 55,000 additional jobs in the state. The results were released at the Washington Biotechnology and Biomedical Association's annual meeting Friday. The report also estimated that 40 percent of venture capital investments in the state are for Life Sciences firms, and that there was around $761M in NIH grants given to life sciences research in Washington. The We Work for Health coalition is funded by the biopharmaceutical industry, and is specifically focused on promoting the life sciences sector in Washington state.
