Amazon Loses Target
Seattle-based Amazon.com has lost retailer Target as a customer, as Target said today that it is dropping Amazon as a partner for its online site, and will instead build and manage its own platform. According to Target, it will launch its new ecommerce site in advance of the holiday season in 2011, after having used Amazon for its technology and fulfillment since 2001. Target explained the change by saying it believes it is in its "best interest" to assume full control, design, and management of its e-commerce technology platform, fulfillment, and guest services. The two said they will continue to work together during the next two years on Target's existing online site.
