GadgetTrak Uses Photos, WiFi To Target Laptop Thieves
Portland-based GadgetTrak said this morning that it has launched a new product targeted at laptop thieves. The firm said it is launching a product called MacTrak, which automatically captures the location and images from laptops and uploads them to photo site Flickr, to deter laptop thieves. GadgetTrak said it system uses location aware Wi-Fi positioning from Skyhook Wireless and the Flickr photo site to automatically take pictures of users using Wi-Fi connected laptops. The product allows owners of devices to remotely activate the service, which will determine the location of the laptop, active a camera, and photograph the thief.
