GadgetTrak Targets Camera Thieves With New Service
Portland-based GadgetTrak, a developer of software to help users track stolen laptops, tablets, and smartphones, said this morning that it has launched a new, free service targeting camera thieves. The firm said it has launched a new service, in beta, which allows users to search for online images taken by a camera, based on its serial number. The firm said the new service is aimed at helping users recover stolen cameras, along with the possibility of solving other crimes, based on tracking the serial number of the camera which took a specific photo, where that image is located, and also if that image can be mapped to a particular user. Most digital cameras embed a serial number in the files they create, which is tied to a specific camera used to take a photo. gadgetTrak is headed by Ken Westin.
