Clearwire, Sprint Ink WiMax Network Deal
Kirkland, Washington-based Clearwire and Sprint Nextel said this morning that the two firms are planning to jointly construct a nationwide, mobile broadband network using WiMAX technology. The two said that they have signed a letter of intent to enable roaming between their respective territories, and will share infrastructure, branding, marketing, and distribution efforts. The deal between the two communications providers is subject to review by the Department of Justice and spectrum assignments by the FCC. Clearwire and Sprint said the moe will give a combined network coverage of 100 million people by the end of 2008. Clearwire is headed by telecom mogul Craig McCaw.
