Extensis Gets Patent

Portland, Oregon-based Extensis announced Thursday that it has been granted a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to Extensis, the patent covers its popular Font Sense technology, which is used for identifying and matching fonts. The patent, number 7,197,706, was granted to the firm on March 27th, and according to the firm's filing names Brian Berson, Trent Brown, and Drew Wilson as inventors. The patent is entitled "Method and system for ensuring accurate font matching in documents" and was originally filed in August of 2000. Extensis said that it uses the technology in its own font management applications. Extensis is a provider of font management software and creative asset software used by graphics designers and others. Extensis is owned by Celartem Technology.
