Gates Foundation Gives Medical Equipment Maker $4.95M Grant
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has provided a developer of pulse oximeters a $4.95M grant, to develop a low cost, pulse oximeter for for use in pneumonia screening outside the U.S. Masimo said Friday moring that the device, which is still in development, will likely measure oxygen saturation (SpO2) and respiration rate (RR), and specifically will go towards efforts to reduce needless deaths that are due to an illness considered low-risk in the developed world.
