Echodyne Sees Successful Airborne Drone Test

Bellevue-based Echodyne Corp, the radar technology developer backed by Bill Gates, Madrona Venture Group, Vulcan Capital, Lux Capital, and The Kresge Foundation, said today that it has seen its first, successful test of its airborne radar systems on a small drone aircraft. The company said the test of its radar was on a small, commercial drone over a period of several days, and showed the ability to detect both moving and stationary obstacles. The company says it is targeting its technology to enable the operation of drones beyond visual line of sight. Echodyne said it expects to make its technology available to commercial customers in early 2017.
