Kymeta Shows Off Satellite Antennas At Yacht Show, Eyes Q2 2017 Launch
Redmond, Washington-based satellite antenna developer Kymeta is continuing to look for early adopters in the "superyacht" market, saying today that it has been demonstrating its technology at the Monaco Yacht Show. The company says it has been able to demonstrate speeds of 65 Mbps on downlink, and 6 Mbps on uplink to satellites using its antenna modules. Kymeta has been looking to sign up superyacht owners as one of its first markets. The company says it is planning to begin pilot production in December 2016 and launch those antennas in Q2 of 2017. Kymeta's antennas use advanced metamaterials for antenna steering, which eliminate the need for conventional satellites antennas, which are bulky, unreliable, and need to be physically steered by motors.
