iovation Launches New Security Service

Portland-based iovation has rolled out a brand new product, which enhances the security of consumer-facing websites--without requiring a password or steps for login. According to iovation, its Consumer Authentication service uses device reputation and authentication, to bypass passwords and let users access information about online accounts, including account balances, shopping records, and activity history. The company said its service uses a record of "known devices" for a user to help streamline access to information, while also triggering one time password and other authentication when access is needed to change user account information, for purchases, and money transfers. iovation's technology is based on tracking details of a user's device profile--the types of computers, smartphones, devices, browser software, IP address, and other telltale information--to figure out when a potential imposter is trying to access a user's account.
