Intel Buys Altera For $16.7 Billion
Intel, one of the largest employers in the Pacific Northwest, said this morning that it is paying $16.7 billion to buy competitor Altera, a maker of field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. Intel said it would pay $54.00 per share for Altera, which is based in San Jose, California. Intel is Oregon's largest private employer, with nearly 17,500 employees. It's unclear how much--if any--impact the acquisition of Altera will have on those operations.
