Oculus Acquires Surreal Vision, Bolsters Redmond Research Team

Virtual reality headset developer Oculus VR--which is owned by Facebook--has made an acquisition today, specifically aimed at bolstering its research team in Redmond. Oculus said it acquired UK-based Surreal Vision, a developer of computer vision technology which enables real-time, 3D scene reconstruction, which creates real time representations of the physical world in real time, allowing users to interact both with virtual and real worlds at the same time. Oculus specifically said it acquired Surreal Vision for its three founders, Richard Newcombe, Renato Salas-Moreno, and Steven Lovegrove, who will join its Oculus Research team in Redmond.
