Energy Storage Systems Wins Entry To New Clean Technology Incubator

Portland-based Energy Storage Systems, a developer of advanced battery technology for utility-scale energy storage, has won entry--and up to $250,000--as part of a new clean technology incubator being funded by Wells Fargo and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). According to Wells Fargo and the NREL, it selected four companies as part of its inaugural class, which is being run in Golden, Colorado, at the NREL's laboratories. Energy Storage Systems was one only four companies selected for the accelerator/incubator program. Energy Storage Systems says it is using iron as its energy stroage medium, which is aimed specifically at utility-scale energy storage needs. The company has previously scored funding and grants from the Department of Energys ARPA-E program, the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute and Oregon BEST, and has been using the Portland State Business Accelerator for its office and laboratory space.
