Microsoft Buys Minecraft Maker Mojang

Redmond-based Microsoft Corp. confirmed this morning that it is buying Mojang, the developer of the immensely popular game Minecraft, in a deal worth $2.5 billion. According to Microsoft, Mojang will become part of Microsoft Studios. The deal is expected to close in late 2014. Microsoft said it will continue to make Minecraft available across all of the platforms the title is offered on today, including PC, iOS, Android, Xbox and PlayStation. Microsoft stressed that it would continue to support the Minecraft community after the acquisition.
