Amazon Web Services Gets Key DoD Approval
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, has gained a key approval from the Department of Defense, which makes the company's cloud-based services available to the Federal government. Amazon said it has received the Department of Defense (DoD) Provisional Authorization under the DoD Cloud Security Model (CSM) for Impact Levels 1-2--a long name for some very tight security and compliance requirements put forth by the DoD. The company said its AWS GovCloud and a number of other services are available under the certification, which lets defense agencies use AWS services as part of their systems.
