Perion Looks To Tame Browser Toolbars Proliferation
Perion Network, the firm which now owns social photo site Smilebox, said today that it has launched new software to help users tame browser toolbars and add-ons. Perion, which has operations in both Seattle and Tel Aviv, Israel, said its new Guardius tool uses crowd-sourced reporting to better manage what add-ons and toolbars are allowed in their browser. The company is looking to tame the all-too-common add-on and toolbar overload issue, which has come from nearly every application or website out there nowadays adding toolbars and extensions to a user's web browser. Perion runs Incredimail, Smilebox, and SweetIM. Perion acquired Incredimail back in 2012, which itself had acquired Redmond's Smilebox in 2011.
