Open Source Creator Sparks Portland vs. San Francisco Debate
Tom Dale, one of the creators of open source software Ember.js, which is used heavily for creating web applications, is moving to Portland--and in the process, has sparked a debate over a growing divide between the have and have-nots in San Francisco due to the city's high tech industry's fortunes. In a blog post entitled "San Francisco, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down", Dale said he is moving to Portland due to the low cost of living and living standards--and because San Francisco is "alienating everyone who isn't in technology." Dale said he's "looking forward to whatever small part I can play in helping Portland’s burgeoning tech scene."
