Zillow Takes On Home Improvement With Zillow Digs

Seattle-based Zillow has turned its eyes towards the home improvement market, saying last night that it has launched a new service called Zillow Digs. The new service, a highly visual, photo driven service, lets users browse through different remodeling ideas and get an estimated cost of how much those remodels will cost.

Zillow said the aim of its new service it to provide "visual inspiration" and understand the real costs of remodeling projects. The interface--which looks to be highly inspired itself by Pinterest--lets users mark their favorite remodeling photos, comment on those photos, and also get an estimated cost of the cost of those remodels based on where they live. Finally, the service connects those browsers with local home improvement professionals.

Zillow is not the only local company to jump on the visual photo browsing trend for real estate; in December, Redfin launched its own, photo browsing service for real estate photos, Redfin Collections.
