Kindle Unlimited Kids Service Debuts
Amazon is looking to corner the market on Android games and apps for kids, with a new program it launched today, called Kindle FreeTime Unlimited. Amazon said it would offer up unlimited access to thousands of Android applications and content on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, including everything from games and educational apps to music and television. The new service--which costs $2.99 per month per child, or $6.99 per month per family for Amazon Prime Members--will include access to content and games from Andrews McMeel Publishing, Chronicle Books, DC Comics, Disney, HIT Entertainment, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Marvel, Nickelodeon, PBS, Reading Rainbow, Sesame Workshop and others. Amazon said all apps will have in-app payments, advertisements, and social media removed, and all the content will be pre-screened for age appropriateness.
