W Fund Targets University Spinouts
A new, venture capital fund out of the University of Washington, the The W Fund, said today that it has launched a $20M early stage venture fund aimed at funding promising spinouts of the University of Washington and other research institutions in the state. The fund said it will help promising research and student generated start-ups with access to early stage capital. The new fund is being led by Linden Rhoads, who is UW's Vice Provost responsible for commercializing university research, and also includes advisors such as Troy Cichos of Madrona Capital, Steven Singh of Concur, Rudy Gadre, the former General Counsel at Facebook, and others.
