Bezos-backed Aviary Gets Flickr Editing Spot
A startup backed by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos, has just been selected to provide photo editing services for the Flickr photo sharing site, now owned by Yahoo. New York-based Aviary, which develops photo editing tools for mobile phones and online apps, is replacing Picnik, the original photo editing tool used by Flickr for on-site photo enhancements and editing. Aviary--which received $7M from Bezos and other investors in 2009--offers up tools to enhance and edit user photos. The firm gets the spot thanks to Google, which recently said it would shut down the Picnik photo editing site, part of an effort by the Internet giant to pare the number of services it offers.
