Corbis Takes On Music Licensing With GreenLight Music
Looking to use Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" in your corporate meeting? Well, now you can--legally--thanks to a new service just launched by Seattle-based Corbis. Corbis said today that it has launched a new service, GreenLight Music, which will provide online licensing for "iconic music". The service offers up well known music, allowing customers to secure usage rights for things like websites, corporate videos, tradeshows, sales meetings, stage productions, and more. Corbis said it has inked deals to access the catalogs of EMI, Universal, Warner and Sony/ATV Music Publishing for the service, giving its customers access to very popular music tracks. Unlike other online music licensing services, the new Corbis GreenLight service includes a significant number of hit songs and artists; the service allows users to find tracks, and make an offer to the artist for licensing rights, suggesting dollar amounts to offer for licensing. In the Journey song, for example, GreenLight suggests offering $1875 to use the song at a corporate meeting for less than 500 people.
