Google Shuts Former Seatttle Startup Picnik
Internet giant Google said late Friday that it is shutting down Picnik, the online photo editing service which had its roots in Seattle. The service is among a number of Google services that the firm said Friday it would shut down, as part of an ongoing housecleaning at Google. Picnik had been started in Seattle in 2005, and was acquired by Google in March of 2010. Google said it would shut Picnik on April 19, 2012. Picnik was founded by Mike Harrington and Darrin Massena, and had around 20 employees in Seattle when it was acquired by Google. The move was not unanticipated--just a couple of weeks ago, online photo service Flickr said it would be removing the Picnik photo editing features from its online photo sharing site, something which had been available since 2007, before the Google acquisition.
