T-Mobile To Shut Sidekick In May
T-Mobile said last night that it will be discontinuing access to its Danger Sidekick service to its users on May 31, 2011. The move will include help to existing users to transfer their data to a new device or their computer, and offers to upgrade users to new devices. Microsoft had run the Sidekick service since it acquired Danger in February of 2008 for around $500M. However, the service suffered a major blow in 2009, when there was a massive data loss for Sidekick users after a server failure at Microsoft. That blow now looks to have been fatal for the service.
