Tippr Waves Patents At Group Buying Firms
Seattle-based Tippr, the provider of group buying software headed by Martin Tobias, said today that it has launched a "patent licensing program" to make its patent portfolio available to the industry. Tippr said the patent license is separate from its white label group buying platform, and is aimed at patent licensing and protection to independent software developer, deal site, or publishers. The firm said that "no one else in the industry has a more comprehensive patent portfolio." Tippr itself was formed when Tobias purchased a suite of patents from Vulcan Capital around the group buying area. So far, Tippr does not appear to have aggressively pursued firms with its patents, however, the patent licensing move might be a signal of the firm's future plans.
