Intel Plans Big Investment In Oregon

Chip giant Intel said Tuesday that it is planning to spend $6 to $8 billion in building manufacturing plans, including funding the firm's new development fab in Oregon. According to Intel, the investment will create around 6,000 to 8,000 construction jobs, and 800-1,000 permanent high tech jobs across its Oregon and Arizona facilities; Intel also said the move would help it maintain its current manufacturing employment base at those U.S. sites. Intel explained that a portion of the funding is specifically aimed at its brand-new development fab in Oregon (D1X) which it says is scheduled for R&D startup in 2013. It also plans upgrades at its two Oregon factories (D1C and D1D) plus two plants in Arizona.
