Amazon Rolls Out New Kindle For $139
Seattle-based Amazon.com announced this morning that it has created a new, $139 Kindle, the Kindle Wi-Fi-only, and updated its line of electronic book readers. According to Amazon, its new Kindle Wi-Fi only includes Wi-Fi support, instead of the former 3G wireless built into the original Kindle. Amazon also said that both of its new devices have a new electronic-ink screen whic it says has 50 percent better contrast, that it has trimmed the size of the device to be 21 percent smaller while keeping the reading area the same, and also reduced the weight by 15 percent. Other features include a new, graphite color option and double the storage. The new, standard Kindle 3G also now includes built in Wi-Fi access. Amazon said the new Kindle devices will roll out beginning August 27th, and are available for pre-order now.
