Amazon Rolls Out New Web Notification Service
Seattle-based Amazon Web Services, the web services arm of Amazon.com, announced early this morning that it has launched a new offering, the Amazon Simple Notification Service. Amazon said that the new Amazon SNS service makes it easy for developers to set up, operate, and send notifications from the cloud. The new Amazon SNS service is targeted at eliminating the software technique of polling, and allows developers to create notification applications for clients. Amazon said the service can potentially be used for monitoring applications, workflow systems, time-sensitive information updates, and mobile applications. The new service provides up to 100,000 requests at no charge, 100,000 notifications via HTTP, and 1,000 email notifications, with pricing set by number of API requests and notifications, plus data transfer into the service.
