Clearwire Rolls Out Hotspot Product
Kirkland, Wash.-based Clearwire, which is developing a WiMax-based wireless service, said Tuesday afternoon that it has begun shipping a new accessory to help users create their own personal Wi-Fi hotspots. According to Clearwire, its new CLEAR Spot Personal Hotspot accessory allows users to create a personal Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere a user has access to Clearwire's WiMAX network. The firm said the new accessory--which works in conjunction with its CLEAR USB modem--allows users to create an 802.11b/g hotspot for any Wi-Fi enabled device. The new accessory allows existing, Wi-Fi enabled phones, cameras, laptops, and other devices to access Clearwire's broadband service.The firm said that the new device will be available for $139, and is manufactured by CradlePoint.
