MOD Systems In Video Deal With Warner Brothers, Paramount
Seattle-based MOD Systems, which develops kiosks used by retailers to deliver digital media to memory cards and devices, said today that it has inked an agreement with studios Warner Brothers and Paramount Digital Entertainment, to distribute digital video from those firms in retail stores. MOD Systems said the deal covers standard definition titles, including new releases. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. MOD Systems' kiosks are installed at retailers, and allow customers to download current digital media titles directly onto SD memory cards. The firm said the two are the first major U.S. studios to sign up with the firm. Separately, MOD Systems said it is at CES in las Vegas this week showing download of video to SD cards with Toshiba. The firm said its system allows full length, standard definition movies to be loaded onto a secure digital card in two to three minutes. MOD Systems is backed by $35M in investments from Toshiba, NCR, and others.
