Isilon Gets Two University Wins

Seattle-based storage provider Isilon Systems has scored two wins with educational institutions, the firm said Tuesday. The firm said that Rice University has selected its products for storing digital multimedia; and, separately, that the University of Michigan has selected the firm's clustered storage for a book digitization project. Financial impact of those deals were not disclosed. In the Rice University deal, Isilon said that its clustered storage will be used to store digital multimedia of speeches and musical performances from the Shepherd School of Music. In the University of Michigan deal, Isilon said it will provide data storage for the university in conjunction with the school's partnership with Google Book Search. Isilon's hardware will be used to store the more than 7.5 million books that the university is scanning along with Google.
