Neural Audio Appoints Johnston Chief Scientist
Neural Audio Corp., a developer of advanced audio and surround sound technologies, reported Monday that it has hired James D. "JJ" Johnston as chief scientist. The Kirkland, Wash.-based business described Johnston as the "Father of Perceptual Audio Coding" and said his contributions in that field have revolutionized digital audio. He spent 26 years at AT&T Bell Labs, where he developed technologies that are used in various media formats, including MP3s and many video codecs. After retiring from AT&T Labs in 2002, Johnston joined Microsoft Corp. as an audio architect. In this role, he designed and implemented audio post-processing functions for the Windows Vista operating system, Neural said.
