Expedia Buys CarRentals.com

Expedia Inc., operators of the online travel Web site Expedia.com, announced Friday that it has acquired New Jersey-based CarRentals.com, an online, direct-to-consumer car rental marketing and retail company. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to Expedia, CarRentals.com will continue to operate in its current form as a business unit under Expedia's discount travel brand, Hotwire. Expedia, which is headquartered in Bellevue, Wash., added that it doesn't plan to alter CarRentals.com's operations, employee base or brand name. The company's senior leadership team will also remain intact, Expedia said.
